Higgins Design Studio, llc is a full service interiors firm, specializing in the design of small living and work spaces. Founded in 1991, we work with busy professionals to create personal, high-functioning homes and offices that support and inspire their lives. We understand that small spaces are not just smaller, they are different and that the planning and design to maximize their size, function and style are also different.

For over three decades, Heather Higgins, the firm’s Principal and Founder, has successfully created residential and commercial interiors. She is a seasoned professional with diverse, comprehensive design skills and project management expertise. Prior to forming Higgins Design Studio, she held design and management roles with respected architectural interiors firms, including Gensler and Associates, The Switzer Group and Griswold Heckel and Kelly. As a project manager for Merrill Lynch and later, as a real estate officer with Chemical Bank, she oversaw the design of corporate facilities by outside consultants.

Trained in both the design and business aspects of interior design, Heather is certified by the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ), is a New York State Certified Interior Designer (CID), a professional member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and Toastmasters International. She earned her B.S. in Marketing from Drexel University, an A.A.S. in Interior Design, cum laude, from the Fashion Institute of Technology and studied Construction Management at New York University.

Heather has been featured on HGTV’s Designer’s Challenge, online in the Wall Street Journal and in several books and magazines, including the Wall Street Journal’s real estate supplement OWN and the luxury lifestyle publications LIFE + DOG and Doggie Aficionado.

Projects are individually conceived to reflect the needs of each client. Our interiors are known for clean, elegant details with an emphasis on color and materials that embrace both the architectural and decorative elements of a space.

Everyone has unique needs in a home or office space and, as our lives and the world around us grow and develop, these must adapt to our changing needs. The success of an interior’s design is determined by its relevance to whom we are today, how we live, work and whether we feel a personal connection to our space.

Each project has a unique set of practical and personal considerations that form the foundation of a design. There are very important practicalities like budget and schedule, but strong emphasis is also given to details about a client’s lifestyle, values and aspirations. We work closely with clients to refine this information and develop a clear vision of how their space should function and feel both privately and when entertaining friends, family and clients. Together, step by step, we transform this vision into a reality.
